WHY CONSIDER A HEALTH CAREER?
According to the US Department of Labor, one out of every six new jobs through the year 2005 will be in health services. Advances in medicine and technology, along with an aging population that requires more health care, has increased the need for educated and skilled employees. Physical therapist assistants, respiratory therapists, health information technicians, medical technologists, nurses and occupational therapists are some of the fastest growing occupations right now.
200 AND COUNTING.
More than 200 occupations fall under the category of "health careers," and all of them are important to our nations health care system. Some involve working "hands on" with people, while others contribute valuable behind-the-scenes skills. Some require an associates degree or certificate, while others require a bachelors degree or higher. There are many different work settings, too, including homes, hospitals, clinics, offices and laboratories.
