Study on Language Barriers The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation asked Wirthlin Worldwide to help them understand how language barriers affect the quality of health care given to patients who are Spanish-speaking, with little or no English abilities. Wirthlin Worldwide, a global marketing and opinion research and consulting firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia, conducted a survey of the Spanish-speaking public and health care providers surveyed. The survey was conducted in a cross section of communities representing areas where the past decade has brought explosive growth of the Latino population. The survey explored the impacts of the language barrier between health care providers and Spanish-speaking patients to better understand how the problem is currently handled, and importantly - what difference it is seen as having on care quality. Take a look at the following report and powerpoint presentation to see what you might learn about reducing language barriers as access to health care. |
