WHAT IS MEDQUEST? HOW DO WE DO IT?

The Program is a hands-on exploration of health care careers designed to introduce students completing grades 9, 10 and 11 to career opportunities in health care. Thirty participants will be selected based on applications, recommendations, grade point average (GPA), and interest in a health career. Up to FIVE Students will be selected from the Cascades East AHEC region --counties of Crook, Jefferson, Deschutes, Klamath, Harney, Lake and the Warm Springs Community in Wasco County to attend the 2008 camp.     • Tour of Health Care Facilities
    • Clinical Skills Workshops

    Shadowing
    Follow and observe health professionals in their daily routines. You may:

    • see a birth
    • help fill prescriptions
    • view an animal surgery
    • type blood
    • help patients

    What You Might See on Tours

    • see the inner workings of a hospital
    • discover the secret life of a dental lab
    • marvel at a mortuary maven

    Presentations

    • you might have a chance to listen to a massage therapist, orthopedic surgeon, psychiatrist, and others share their experience & knowledge

PARENT INVOLVMENT: Parents are invited for the closing session on the final day of camp. At this session students will receive a certificate for completing camp and a group photo.

WHO, WHEN & WHERE?

  • High school student grades 9 -11
  • June 23 - 27, 2008
  • Eastern Oregon University - La Grande, OR
  • Transportation not provided, it is the responsibility of the participant to arrive at camp on-time for check-in.

HOW MUCH?

  • Tuition is $320.00, a $50 deposit is required at the time of application. A portion of the deposit may be waived due to financial hardship (see details on application)
  • Limited spots (5 maximum) are available to students from the Cascades East AHEC region. Priority will be given to students meeting Cascades East AHEC scholarship criteria.
  • Scholarships cover $270.00 of tuition costs. You may apply for a scholarship by checking the appropriate box(es) on your application.
  • Application deposits and camp payments are subject to refund policy stated on application form.
