WHAT IS MEDQUEST? HOW DO WE DO IT?

The Program is a hands-on exploration of health care careers designed to introduce students completing grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 to career opportunities in health care. 34 participants will be selected based on applications, recommendations, grade point average (GPA), and interest in a health career. EOU will offer two (2) Health and Wellness Studies credits to interested MedQuest participants through EOU. Students will be selected from the Cascades East AHEC region --counties of Crook, Jefferson, Deschutes, Klamath, Harney, Lake and the Warm Springs Community in Wasco County to attend the 2010 camp.     Shadowing Experiences at MedQuest
    Follow and observe health professionals in their daily routines. You may job shadow the following:

    • Dentist/Dental Hygiene
    • Nursing
    • Veterinary
    • Mental Health
    • Radiology Technician
    • Medical Laboratory
    • Public Health
    • Naturopathic Medicine
    • Respiratory Therapist
    • Medical Records
    • Physical Therapy
    • Physician

    • EMT/Firefighter

    What You Might See on Tours

    • Wildflower Lodge (A walk through an assisted living facility.)
    • Pacific Sleep Medicine (A walk through a sleep study center.)
    • Animal Health Center (A walk through a veterinary clinic. An ultra sound or surgery is usually scheduled for this tour.)
    • Loveland Funeral Chapel (A walk through a funeral chapel.)
    • Apple Eye Care (A walk through an optometry clinic.)
    • Comfort Dental Labs (A walk through a dental lab.)
    • Massage School (A walk through a massage school.)

PARENT INVOLVMENT: Parents are invited for the closing session on the final day of camp. At this session students will receive a certificate for completing camp and a group photo.

WHO, WHEN & WHERE?

  • High school student grades 9 -12
  • June 14 - 18, 2010
  • Eastern Oregon University - La Grande, OR
  • Transportation not provided, it is the responsibility of the participant to arrive at camp on-time for check-in.

HOW MUCH?

  • Tuition is $320.00, a $50 deposit is required at the time of application. (balance of $270 due by June 1, 2010).
  • One full and two partial scholarships are available for those who may need financial assistance.
  • You may apply for a scholarship by checking the appropriate box(es) on your application.
  • Application deposits and camp payments are subject to refund policy stated on application form.
