In Oregon, students have the opportunity to attend one of the regional health care career-related summer camps.

MedStars- CEAHEC | June 23-28, 2019 |July 14-19, 2019

MedStars is a week-long residence camp for diverse and underserved high school students in the Cascades East region. MedStars will host 32 high school students each week with preference given to students entering their senior year.

Students will engage with and explore the vast career opportunities available in health care. MedStars inspires and nurtures students’ curiosity to learn about the intricate health care systems through various hands-on activities, learning simulations, daily career speakers and lecture series. Students will leave with a better understanding of health care, and the skills required to succeed in a competitive field.

Activities may include:

  • Campus visit to the Health Career Centers at Central Oregon Community College

  • Exploring the science labs at OSU- Cascades

  • Job shadowing opportunities at the St. Charles, Bend Hospital

  • Wilderness medicine activities

  • Engaging with many health care professionals in various fields and specialties of medicine

  • Participating in hands-on activities to learn about advancing medical technology

MedStars will take place in Bend with students residing in the college dormitory on the OSU-Cascades Campus. Activities are held throughout Central Oregon, with support from local partnerships including St. Charles Health System, Central Oregon Community College, and Volunteers in Medicine. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from Bend. Transportation will be provided during the course of the program.


MedQuest- NEOAHEC    
June 17-21, 2019

Eastern Oregon University Campus, LaGrande, Oregon. Sponsored by Northeast Oregon AHEC and Eastern Oregon University. 

MedQuest is a hands-on exploration of health care careers designed to introduce students completing grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 to career opportunities in health care. Thirty-four participants will be selected based on applications, recommendations, grade point average (GPA), and interest in a health career. EOU will offer two (2) Health and Wellness Studies credits to interested MedQuest participants through EOU.  


Students accepted from the CEAHEC region may be eligible for a MedQuest scholarship.
