SUMMER CAMPS

2024 MEDSTARS CAMP DATES

JULY 14th-18th, 2024

MedStars is a multi-day residence camp for high school students in the Cascades East region, with preference given to diverse and underserved students. 

Students will engage with and explore the vast career opportunities available in health care. MedStars inspires students to learn about the intricate health care systems through various hands-on activities, learning simulations, daily career speakers and lecture series. Students will leave with a better understanding of health care, and the skills required to succeed in a competitive field.


· DATES: Sunday July 14th to Thursday July 18th, 2024 (participants need to commit to the entirety of camp)

· LOCATION: Central Oregon Community College- Wickiup dorm (students will share dorm rooms with other participants)

· WHO CAN APPLY: Open to current juniors in the 2023-2024 school year.  We are reserving at least one spot for each of the following counties: Harney, Grant, Klamath, Crook, Jefferson, Deschutes, Lake, and Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. We are limited to 20 participants.

· COST: Free! All students will be provided a scholarship for the cost of camp.  The only payment necessary is a $25 non-refundable deposit to hold your position if you are selected for camp. 

· TRANSPORTATION: transportation to camp on the 14th and back home on the 18th is up to the participant.   If you are selected for camp and transportation is a hardship, please contact CEAHEC staff to see if we can help.

 

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

·  Learn about COCC’s Healthcare Career Programs with hands-on activities

·  Experience dorm living

·  Explore a university science lab

·  Become BLS certified

·   Learn medical basics such as suturing and stopping life threatening bleeds

·   Build connections to help you pursue your career pathway




How to Apply for MedStars 2024 Cohort:

  • Use the link above to fill out the online application form. Applications will be due May 1st, 2024.

    • You will be asked to upload a word document with your responses to the following questions:

      • Why are you interested in a health care career?

      • Please share your educational goals after high school.

      • How would you contribute positively to our camp learning environment? Why should we choose you?

  • Be prepared to upload your current Resume that includes your work experience, leadership positions, extracurricular activities, certifications, and volunteer experience

  • You will need one individual to fill out the Teacher Recommendation form for you. The recommendation form must be filled out by a teacher, health professional, school counselor, school administrator, or community leader (they cannot be a family member). Rural MedQuest Camp- NEOAHEC    

There are two additional summer camps available to Central Oregon students, hosted by our partner AHEC, Northeast Oregon AHEC.

NEOAHEC’s MedQuest camp is designed to enhance camper’s knowledge of rural medicine, all while having an amazing time and making new friends. This 6-day, 5-night camp is designed for rural, frontier, and urban students from Oregon.

Highlights include:

  • Three job shadows in healthcare

  • Mentorship from Camp Director, Counselors, and healthcare professionals

  • Daily emphasis on team building

  • Hands-on experiences to learn clinical skills

  • Intubation with Search and Rescue

  • Community dinner

2024 CAMP DETAILS

  • Location: Eastern Oregon University, One University Blvd, La Grande, OR 97850

  • Dates: June 17 – 22 2024

  • Age Group: All current high school freshman to graduating seniors in Oregon. There are only 40 spots available. We ask that you commit to the entire camp to participate.

  • Cost: $400 (Scholarships available)

  • Schedule: Residential camp – activities throughout each day

Frontier MedQuest Camp- NEOAHEC

This 5-day, 4-night camp is designed for rural, frontier, and urban students from Oregon. Campers will have job shadows, learn how to take vitals and other clinical skills, hear from current healthcare professionals and students in healthcare education programs, and participate in a multitude of hands-on activities.

Highlights include:

  • Three job shadows in healthcare

  • Mentorship from Camp Director, Counselors, and healthcare professionals

  • Daily emphasis on team building

  • Hands-on experiences to learn clinical skills

  • Community barbeque on a local ranch

  • 2024 Camp Details

    • Crane High School 43277 Crane-Venator Rd, Crane, OR 97732

    • Located in Burns and Crane, Oregon.

    • June 3-7, 2024, (Monday - Friday).

    • Campers will stay in the Crane High School dorms.

    • Residential camp – activities throughout each day

    • $25.00 deposit fee

    • $300 (Scholarships available)

    • Application due, March 31.

    • 25 student spots are available!

    • All current high school freshman – graduating seniors in Oregon. 10 spots will be held for students from Grant & Harney counties. There are only 20 spots available. We ask that you commit to the entire camp to participate.
